My resos have 4 sound screens that let out more of the good sound.  I use maple construction, sound posts and baffle system with rosewood fret boards.  The metal parts usually are ordered from Stewart McDonald, First Quality, or Paul Beard "Resophonic Outfitters." 

These guitars are thicker than the usual reso and that helps with the sound also.
